Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative: A Pillar of Progress in Nasarawa State

In just over four years, the Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative has emerged as the foremost socio-cultural association in Nasarawa State, driving development and unity within Afo communities. Founded with the spirit of giving back, echoing John F. Kennedy’s famous words, "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country," the association has grown from a small gathering of three individuals to a formidable force with over 10,000 members.

Registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Abuja with RN7230497, Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative has become a model for community service. It has successfully organized three impactful summits, fostering harmonious relationships between youth and stakeholders. These summits have not only identified core issues but also set resolutions that any aspiring political candidate must align with the association to have a shot at victory and must contribute to the development of the Afo Nation.

One of the most notable initiatives was the last summit held in honor of Maj. Gen. S. Ibrahim (former DG NYSC), followed by a groundbreaking outreach for the girl child. This outreach saw the distribution of over 3,000 sanitary pads, 500 exercise books, mathematical sets, pencils, and biros. The association’s commitment to education and empowerment doesn't stop there; it has also secured employment for many Afo youths in prestigious institutions such as Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Center, Lafia, Nasarawa State Hospital Management Board and China Harbour Engineering Company, among others.

Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative’s philanthropic efforts are equally commendable. Collaborating with stakeholders, the association has raised funds to cover hospital bills for the poor and vulnerable, benefiting individuals like Jummai Audu, Aisha Ibrahim, Bathsheba Daniel and a host of several others. Additionally, one girl is currently on an educational scholarship provided by the association.

The association's impact on infrastructure is significant, with the refurbishment of LGEA Agam Primary School and the installation of solar panels and boreholes in various communities. Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative has also ensured that government palliatives and poverty alleviation schemes reach its people, maintaining strong alliances with both Afo and non-Afo individuals to keep the community at the forefront of development.

Moreover, the association’s advocacy has yielded political influence, evident in the appointment of an Afo man as a Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council following their open letter to the Governor. That demonstrated Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative’s powerful voice and its commitment to the aspirations and needs of the Afo people.

Afo Youth Mentorship Initiative remains the hope and driving force for the common Afo man, continually aligning with well-meaning individuals to uplift the youth and the society at large. Its results-oriented approach and efficient collaboration make it a model association in Nasarawa State, dedicated to progress and prosperity for all.
